The World under terror

This year I've been forced to think many times but never like this before. Whenever it use to happen my adrenaline use to rush, use always to question the one particular religion and its practices, use to always think as what make this religion or people practicing it to kill innocent people in the name of this religion, use to think the only way to save this world probably is to eradicate this religion all together. I always was a hardliner, always believing in tit for tat. But in the last 3 days what I've seen and what I've experienced I am now beginning to believe that the menace can't be handled the hard way. There are probably few people following this religion who are radical and who are ready to go to such an extreme to kill innocent people but then people with such mentality are there in every religion, what may be different here probably is a greater % of people believing in such ideas and actually go in such length to do that. But if we really want to win this war of terror, this war of hatred we need to adopt the soft way with a mix of hard way. We probably first need to go and find out about the root cause of this issue. What make people to go and do such extreme things and why? Probably we need to ask these questions to all of ourselves!

I know there are things done in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Kashmir which were not 100% right on our part. Lets accept it that we also did mistakes. But to now the question is how to correct these mistakes, how to soothe the anger of the people from each side who are now ready to take arms and fight their own battle? Do we want to go to extreme path to create more anger on both sides or do we want to take one step at a time and come to a middle ground where religion is people's choice inside their homes and not a license to kill, where people learn and co-exist happily, where people think of developing towards a more prosperous future and not towards hatred and revenge, where people ultimately love each other for their character and not for their class, creed or religion!!

The second most disturbing thing which is coming out of all this is the pathetic and most absurd behaviour from our representatives or so called leaders. I was beginning to think that probably this would be the defining moment in terms of how our politicians behave, that probably now we all will stand together and unite against all those who hate humanity, that probably now for once and all we will become one country and speak in one voice. But I was so bloody wrong when I heard height of sycophancy from Jayanti Natarajan (whose blood didn't boil a single time seeing the horror for more than 60 hrs on TV and seeing more than 200 people dead but whose blood immediately boiled when told a little negative about Sonia Gandhi), the most pathetic man to be called a leader R R Patil, DyCM of Maharashtra (who said that these small things keep happening in a big city like Mumbai) and one MNS thug (who sent SMS to one of the mediamen saying why Raj Thakery wants non-Mumbaikars to leave as it is so overcrowded that identifying normal people from terrorists has become difficult). This has probably made one thing very clear to me that our politicians will never change, they will keep looting us, they will keep making martyrs out of Army, Police and all of us but they themselves will never change, will never show a little shame, will always be singing "HUM NAHIN SUDHERENGE".

But then it bring us the question that how this state of our Indian democracy will improve. We, the people like me and you, always keep throwing dung to these politicians but we ourselves never thought of coming out of our little cocoons and start a movement to change all this system of unjustice, all this system of this sycophancy, all this system of politics where people like Raj Thakery and alike can claim to be representatives of us. I heard people saying "what can I just do", but I think each great movement started with just one "I". Lets unite in this moment of crisis and show all these politicians that we won't let these bloody, narrow minded and self benefitting politicians live in our political system anymore!

I invite all the people who are reading this blog to share their thoughts and bring our ideas and for godsake constructive ideas only so that we can move forward from here for a better and brighter future without any fear in our minds.

  1. Manindra,
good reading! i really appreciate your concern.
Pay a little thought to the fact that politicians have job to do and they are doing it. If it was really so easy , anybody can be a politician.
Well , we all must realize that "some" politicians also work and they are not laways enjoying life!

How many did you see in your earlier company reacting to the blast in FCC? was that BNB's fault or CPNM's , but they faced it and bore the brunt of it? didn't they?
We are all same everywhere - in India but when we move out to disciplined country like Sg , we have to behave like that country's law and we do it - surprisingly!
It is the freedom of speech we are enjoying in India , ,would any singaporean say anything about the govt. even if some policies are quite baffling? NO!!

Come back to the question , why is this happening ? I am also puzzled about it? Because the motive is unclear. How can you train boys to die? Maybe in lieu of a lifelong comfort for their families? unlikely , some deeper facts lay in there , buried by years of hatred against the west and the rest.
Politicians can not do anything - they can make laws based on suggestions given by beaurocrats and smart people like us ; they can implement them or force us to do it ; but ultimately it is up to us to follow the law of the land and ensure that it is followed by others too!

World needs leaders like Gorbachev , Mandela and Rabin who have endlessly demonstrated that peace is gettble.
will write more - I have two kids too!

  2. Assuming all of us are common citizens and have no direct role in Govt and Administration, I think following is what we can do -
    1. Remind our elected or to be elected representative what matters to us. Not only through the vote but whenever you get a chance to be back home, visit your representative and ask him/her what is he doing on your priorities. Which should be Security and Economic wellbeing for all.

    2. Work or building a nationalistic character. On a scale of large nos, we dont have Indian identity. We must and absoulutely must believe in the larger Indian identity.

Few more points to add.. will write again

  3. I am very happy to read your thoughts and I think we need more. Please don't stop your suggestions. What we need @ this hour is the way to move forward. I've found some very disturbing pictures today, some of them are quite scary to see. Please take a look but for some pictures you need to make your heart really strong:

  4. Just read your comments Vineet, thanks for that. What I am saying here are two things, first a permanent way to end this terror (if we can't do it straight away at least a small step in that direction) and second in terms of what we can do about our pathetic politicians. Now when I say pathetic politicians I don't mean all. There are probably few like the famous movie "A few good men" left. I can count in them our current prime-minister and ex prime-minister. What disgusts me when I see people like Raj Thakaray, Mulayam Singh, Mayawati and Lallu Yadav ruling people like us (can be more appropriate if I say like you, "smart people like you & me"). I just can't understand how we are tolerating all this and till when. It is high time we start asking for the correct CV from a politician. I don't know whether you've seen one advertisement coming on Indian television about some tea company where the guy ask the politician about his CV. If there are 10 different rounds of interviews I've to give with as much qualification to show on my CV as possible to get a job in a company then why not a politician needs to have some real qualification to run a country where people like you & me live. I am sure there would not be any person like the Rajs or the Mulayams running s'pore and if they are then God save s'pore!!

  5. ell well hubby....there is absolutely nothing i want to ask from politicians cause it will prove worthless. There is nothing i want to crib about.....cause it will take us nowhere. What i really want to bring about is some action to the table. Yes, i agree that we are all struggling to get that answer. But people, let me assure you there is no wrong or right answer. For a crisis of this scale we really need to be thinking of "Out of the box" solutions. And of course, i have thought one of those.
At a time, when we have given up on the current leadership or the alternate leadership, the priority is to get the right leadership for the country. Well, and that we Indians are so leadership-hungry & action-hungry at the moment, we will vote for any fresh and sharp mind that enters politics. So, how about urging the best minds being trained to be managers to manage the country? Well, ofcourse i am speaking about the IIMs! If they can become the next Obamas for India, why not? For there personal ambition in terms of money and status, there is nothing better. If they enter as a group and not as individuals, I am sure they can topple any government and any bureaucracy.
Its just an idea but in my heart i feel strongly about it. I have written to IBN and NDTV to make my voice heard and would also request you all to share the idea with as many people as possible. Please do keep throwing ideas......and lets take up the issue in our own little way!
